Mayara Pineiro was born in Havana, Cuba and graduated from The Cuban National Ballet School under the direction of Ramona de Saa. She participated in International Dance Festivals in South Africa, Peru and Canada. At the age of 16, she won a Silver medal in The International Ballet Competition held in Havana, Cuba. That same year, she received a gold medal in the Danza & Mare Competition in Calabria, Italy. In 2011, she was awarded the gold medal in the Youth American Grand Prix in Tampa. Pineiro began her professional career in 2010, when she joined the National Opera of Bucharest as a soloist. There, she danced many roles, including the Woodland Glade Fairy in The Sleeping Beauty, the Russian Girl in Serenade and a Slave in Le Corsaire. In 2012, she was invited as a guest artist to Balletto del Sud in Italy under the direction of Fredy Franzutti where she performed Blue Bird pas de deux from The Sleeping Beauty and the title role in Carmen. This is her second season with Milwaukee Ballet.
