ResiDANCE responds directly to the reduction in arts programs in our local schools. It’s a fully-subsidized year-long residency program with specific underserved schools in Milwaukee.
With significant reductions in state and local funding for the arts, the only way for some schools to give children enrichment through art, physical education, and music, is through community partner like us.
Milwaukee Ballet addresses these known enrichment gaps while nurturing the mental and creative flexibility, discipline and self-esteem that impact the academic success of all children. ResiDANCE aligns curriculum with history, foreign language, math, language arts, visual arts and/or physical education goals as needed.
Student participants enjoy six distinct interactions with Milwaukee Ballet throughout the school year: workshops on ballet stories, fitness, and ballet basics; in-studio visits to Milwaukee Ballet to meet the dancers; tour the costume shop, and watch rehearsal; attendance at a Company performance at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts. Each year these schools receive a free Ballet-in-a-Box show at their school and free tickets and transportation to Milwaukee Ballet’s student matinee of The Nutcracker.
