Catherine Conley was born in Chicago and began her formal dance training at the Ruth Page Center for the Arts and the Civic Ballet of Chicago at the age of six. She danced as Swanhilda in Coppélia and appeared in Civic Ballet productions of The Nutcracker and Napoli. At age 18, she participated in an exchange between the Ruth Page Civic Ballet of Chicago and the National Ballet School of Cuba. She was subsequently invited to train full time at the school in Havana, a first for an American ballerina.
While there she performed as Gulnare and Medora in Le Corsaire and competed in the International Competition for Ballet Schools in Havana, winning the silver medal with the Grand Pas from Paquita. In 2017 she entered the National Ballet of Cuba, becoming the company’s only foreign dancer. During her tenure she performed in Giselle, Swan Lake, Cinderella and The Magic Flute.
She is thrilled to join Milwaukee Ballet during its 50th anniversary season.
