We set the stage for choreographic creation with the return of the Genesis competition to the Pabst Theater.
Finalists will showcase new works created on the company and vie for the prize of a commission—which will be awarded by a panel of guest artistic directors.
Audiences will enjoy their own adjudication process by voting for an Audience Choice Award.
“Genesis gives ambitious young artists a chance to have their work seen on a major stage,” says Artistic Director Michael Pink. “And it offers the audience an extraordinary chance to witness new work–a central component of our company’s longstanding commitment to produce innovative and imaginative world premieres in Milwaukee.”

How it Works
Choreographers from around the world submit footage of work they’ve created. The only credential they need is a current contract with a professional classical or contemporary dance company.
Three choreographers, selected by Michael Pink, were given three weeks to create new work on the company which will be premiered at Genesis 2019.
A panel of guest artistic directors will choose the winner.
Past Genesis winners include Princess Grace Award winners, resident choreographers, and artistic directors. Catch these bright young stars show their work at The Pabst, and you can say you saw them make their big break.
Michael Pink is the longest serving artistic director in Milwaukee Ballet’s history. Since arriving in 2002, he has demonstrated his commitment to the future of dance through new work, education, and collaboration. His artistic vision for Milwaukee Ballet continues to excite and challenge.
