This family-friendly ballet was given new life in December 2023! Michael Pink’s recreation of The Nutcracker features even more student cast roles, playful characters, and stunning costumes, sets, and light designs. This is a unique opportunity for Milwaukee Ballet School & Academy students to perform alongside our professional company of dancers, gain additional rehearsal and performance experience, and play a key role in this magical holiday favorite.

Parent Backstage Volunteers

Parent volunteers are critical to the success of The Nutcracker and provide an exciting insiders’ look at the production. Volunteers are needed backstage for all rehearsals and performances at the theater. Volunteers have access to use a discounted parking voucher when they are on duty.

Sign Up to Volunteer Backstage at The Nutcracker:

1. First-time volunteers should complete the Volunteer Application no later than Monday, October 20. This allows your application to be processed and reviewed before the sign-up link is shared. Only currently approved volunteers that are a legal parent/guardian will recieve the sign-up link.
2. Review The Nutcracker Volunteer Descriptions here.
3. On October 27 at 12:00pm, Alyx Johnson will email the backstage volutneer sign-up link to only currently approved volutneers that are a legal parent/guardian of a 2025 Student Cast member.
4. From October 27-November 2, parents/guardians may sign up for only one slot per role.
   • For example, a female parent may sign up for one Check-Out Slot and one Backstage slot under their student’s role and cast. A male parent may also sign up for one Check-Out slot and one Male Volunteer slot.
   • If a parent has two or more student cast members (i.e. a Soldier and a Bonbon), they may initially sign up for one Soldier slot and one Bonbon slot.
   • Additionally, if a parent has two student cast members in the same role (i.e. two Swans), they may initially sign up for two Swan slots during this time.
5. Starting Monday, November 3, parents/guardians may sign up for any additional remaining open slots.
6. All backstage volunteers must attend either the in-person or virtual training session. These identical trainings will be held on Sunday, November 9 at Baumgartner Center for Dance and on Monday, November 10 virtually. Please check the latest rehearsal and performance calendar linked above for details and plan to attend either one of these meetings.
